## The Gate Keepers

## Mayor's Manor

James: You return to the gates of the guard fortress.

Guard: “Open the gates!”

Frakk: Uses a healing surge.

heals 13 hit points and has 8 out of 9 healing surges remaining

Lia: I am happy to report our little foray was even more successful than we had hoped.

Uther: Ah good, our heroes return.

Daugstrom: “What information were you able to gather?”

Frakk: Dajani is holed up in the Manor

Frakk: We rescued the Padraig girl

Lia: And we have a prisoner

- Frakk shakes the prisoner by the cuff for emphasis
- Cian sits and scratches his ear with his hind paw.

Uther: “Very good! Let us question this prisoner of yours.”

Lia: There were five guards in the town, they proved no more than a minor inconvenience, particularly for Frakk here, but it will be noticed that we have been there. I’m not positive but guards should be aware of the possibility of reprisals.

Daugstrom: “And we’re glad you rescued the Padraig girl, we had feared her slain.”

Cian: d

Frakk: o

- Cian scratches his other ear with his other paw.

Lia: g

Agera: “Well it does complicate matters, but if they were ready for an outright assault I’m sure they would have done so by now, to crush us while we’re weak. Something must be holding them back, perhaps they are fewer in number than we think.”

Frakk: Or they are concentrating on their ritual

Parthas: “Also a possibility.”

Lia: Hm, a disturbing prospect.

- Frakk mutters under his breath… “magic”

Uther: “What say you cultist? Why has Dajani not attacked us?”

- Cian scratches at his chest, a large clump of fur comes off.
- Cian wimpers.

Lia: Regardless of which might be true, it might be best to attempt to interrupt whatever they are doing, and strike at them when they are not prepared. But I fear Dajani is still very powerful, no matter what state we might find her in.

Midas: There is a chance Tyrile and Splug are there, and I have a score to settle.

Cultist 1: “I uh… That is…. I mean… well… Dajani doesn’t have enough of an army to… Well, that is… not yet… She’s going to… but… she wants to free Karavakos… so she’s… not really paying attention to…”

Lia: Indeed and my bounty may be there as well, or at least the next piece of information I need on him.

- Cian nibbles at his paw to scratch it.
- Cian wimpers

Lia: To what Cultist? You may as well spit it out, we’ll get the information one way or another.

Cultist 1: “She wants to wipe you out, make no mistake, but she wants more than that. She wants an army.”

Lia: So she wants to enslave our souls as she did the others.

Cultist 1: “So… she’s making one, or rather, having Barthus make her one.”

Cultist 1: “She doesn’t need souls for her army… just… bodies.”

Frakk: ah… then we must make sure the dead are properly buried or cremated then.

Lia: so the longer we give her, the stronger she gets, and the weaker we get.

Frakk: not good math

Cultist 1: “The animus of a body is enough. Zombies, skeletons, these are undead that no longer possess souls, but are animated through an animus – a form of will that possesses the body.”

Lia: Cremation seems to be the safest possibility then, and the complete destruction of bones.

Cultist 1: “Your thinking of only the recently deceased. Dajani thinks… on a larger scale.”

Cultist 1: You’re*

Frakk: like what? some dead army that this town was built over? psshhh we don’t deal in cliche’s here

Tyrile: “She wants to animate ALL the dead, like, ever?”

Lia: I’m not thinking only of the recently deceased, just of the most pressing matters, desposing of our dead.

- Cian shakes out his body.

Lia: Regardless, we cannot afford to dawdle, she will never be weaker than she is now.

Frakk: True, and Midas’ companions need rescuing still

Cultist 1: “This town has a cemetary, just like most other towns. Nearby crypts and tombs. She wants to raise this country’s dead against the living and march her army against the world – finding what she needs in her wake.”

Midas: Finally, what I’ve been waiting for.

- Cian barks positively at Frakk’s words.

Lia: Yes yes we get the picture cultist one.

Cultist 1: “They took the stuff to the Manor. The goblin they took as Sacrifice to the cemetary.”

Frakk: How long will the ritual take?

Cultist 1: “A few hours. They should have been going at it for a while now.”

Midas: How far is this cemetary?

Uther: “Just on the edge of town, to the South.”

Frakk: and the Manor?

Daugstrom: “Southeast.”

Lia: So, swing by the cemetary on the way to the manor, we need to hurry.

Midas: Lets go, no time to waste.

Lia: Ah, the workings of the divine, so mysterious.

- Tyrile runs his scaled hands over Cian heads and scratches behind his ear. “I thought you would have gotten away.”

Midas: We made it out, but he died on the way back

- Cian wimpers.

Tyrile: “Well, he certainly seems to have gotten better.”

Midas: The Raven Queen sent him back for the same purpose Pelor sent you.

Lia: Well, sort of I would guess.

- Cian growls at an imaginary figure.

Warrior: “Did you guys hear something?”

Warrior 1: “I thought I heard a dog barking.”

Dragonborn 1: “I think I heard it too.”

Tyrile: “Thank you all for coming for me. I doubt I’d be able to fight my way out of here by myself.”

Warrior: “Did the mayor have a dog?”

Lia: Let’s get moving, we still have your friend splug to attend to.

Cian: ((End Turn))

Dragonborn: “So… I’m cool with surrendering.”

Cian: Kisses his holy symbol as he considers his next move.

Close Burst 10: 1 Enemy Within Range

Trigger: Your oath of enmity target drops to 0 hit points.

Effect: You use oath of enmity on the target. Until the end of your next turn, the target grants combat advantage to you.

Dragonborn: “I have info that could benefit you!”

Dragonborn: “I’m not really a cultist! They just offered me more money than the town.”

Dragonborn: **gulp**

Frakk: Where is Drajani?

Frakk: rolls a 2 for a total of 16 on his intimidate check.

Dragonborn: Dajani is searching for a way to open Karavakos’ prison.

Lia: we know

Lia: keep talking until you say something useful or you’re dead

- Tyrile slowly begins to raise up his longsword.

Dragonborn: “She mentioned someone. Dejin something. He’s the one who made the prison. Some kind of Trickster.”

Lia: yeah?

Dragonborn: “Yeah. She’s looking for his tomb. She thinks he might have the key to the prison.”

- Lia draws an arrow and puts it right next to dragonborn’s eye.

Lia: She’s trying to find the tomb of the guy who built the prison in hopes that it contains the key? Hmmm… I don’t know if any of this is helpful enough.

Lia: rolls a 10 for a total of 12 on his intimidate check.

Dragonborn: “It’s in the Feywild.”

Lia: The trickster’s tomb or Karavakos’

Lia: ?

Dragonborn: “She went to the Feywild, while Barthus is here rallying the troops and trying to raise an army.”

Dragonborn: “The Trickster’s Tomb. The Trickster was an Eladrin.”

Dragonborn: “She’s not planning on ‘finding’ the prison. She’s planning on summoning it to her.”

Dragonborn: “But if anybody touches it without the key they get sucked in and trapped there.”

- Lia lets the bow go slack, not firing it.

Frakk: we done with this thing?

Lia: well guys? What do you think? enough information to warrant his life?

Tyrile: “Throw down your sword, I’ll promise you I wont kill you.”

- Cian hefts his axe.

Dragonborn: “What about the rest of them?”

Cian: I won’t make that promise.

Frakk: You’re kidding right? He traded money for the lives of everyone in the village?

Lia: I could care less either way. Do what you want with him… just remember, we don’t have time to take him back to town, we have another place to go.

Cian: Ready Frakk?

Tyrile: “I wont kill him. Thats too good for him.”

Frakk: hahaha, I suppose so

Lia: As far as I’m concerned do what you want with him. Frakk, Cian.

Frakk: take his legs

Tyrile: “I’ll take out his eyes, and maim his hands and take him to the watch.”

Dragonborn: “I traded money for my life. If I hadn’t joined them they would’ve killed me and used my undead body for their army!”

Cian: Don’t worry, there won’t be enough left.

Tyrile: “Better to die fighting, then to live with dishonor.”

Dragonborn: “Geez. You guys are just as bad as those cultists.”

Cian: Death does that to a person.

- Tyrile pulls back the coif of his armor.

Inquisitor Tyrildottir: “We should take him as prisoner back to the compound. He can answer for his crimes in a court of Inquisition.”

Cian: I’ll get you a basket.

Lia: You can do that if you want, we have no time, there’s still another life as needs saving.

Midas: we need to save splug still.

Tyrile: “Death before dishonor. Thats my motto. I wont hold you to my code though. So instead, you can choose. Death at their hands, or maimed at mine?”

Frakk: Yes, inquisitor, if this betrayer’s life is of value to you, handle it

Inquisitor Tyrildottir: I’ll take him back, you save Splug."

Tyrile: “Thank you Lexi.”

Cian: He loses an arm first.

Inquisitor Tyrildottir: “Fine.”

Cian: You choose which one lizard face.

Cian: Put it on the table.

- Tyrile pulls out his bandages. “Dont worry, I’ll make sure you dont die from bloodloss.”

Dragonborn: “Yeah, I’m not doing that. Dogcat.”

Cian: Then it’s your head.

Dragonborn: “SEPPEKU!”

Midas has received initiative.

Cian: All yours inquisitor.
